Sovereign Track: Pound and Euro Roadmaps
Where official digital money stands
Central banks in the UK and euro area are designing digital forms of existing public money.
Nothing here is a launch announcement. Both projects still depend on law, design choices and political decisions.
Use this page as a simple overview. The courses explain the detail.
The Digital Pound
Now (through 2026)
The Bank of England and HM Treasury are in the design phase. Work includes the Digital Pound Lab and a blueprint that will inform a decision on whether to proceed.
If they proceed
Primary legislation would be required. Parliament would have to pass the legal framework before any public launch.
Earliest public use
Even with a decision to go ahead, a retail Digital Pound would not be a near-term everyday product. Official planning still points to the late 2020s at the earliest. Cash is intended to remain available.

The Digital Euro (Eurozone)
-
Now
The ECB has finished its preparation phase and is continuing technical work, market testing and support for the EU legislative process. A pilot is planned for 2027.
-
Law
A Digital Euro would need the EU regulation to be adopted before the ECB can decide to issue it. Co-legislators are still working through that process.
-
Earliest public use
The working assumption used by the ECB is readiness for a possible first issuance around 2029, if the law is in place. Holding limits and offline payments are part of the design discussion. Cash is intended to remain available.
How We3volution fits
The free Digital Pound and Digital Euro courses explain the official plans in plain language: purpose, privacy design, legal safeguards, and how payments might work.
We update the material when official positions change. We do not run real Digital Pound or Digital Euro wallets, and we do not handle public money.
